Finland Is The 'Focus Country' Of 27th KIFF, 7 Finnish Films To Be Screened


Finland will be the Focus Country at the 27th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF). A bouquet of films from Finland will be screened this year. Most of the films are helmed by contemporary Finnish directors.

"The Embassy of Finland is uniting with 27th KIFF for presęnting Finland as a focus country of the prestigious festival. A couple of months back, West Bengal State Government has hosted the Ambassador of Finland and the plan of teaming with the 27th KIFF ensued then", said Subrata Halder, Honorary Consul of Finland to Kolkata in an announcement press conference organised by the KIFF committee.

To bring the nicest of contemporary Finnish cinema to Kolkata, the 'Focus Finland' selection comprises of 7 films by young generation directors such as 'Compartment No. 6' by Juho Kuosmanen, 'Tove' by Zaida Bergroth, 'Ladies Of Steel' by Pamela Tola, 'Games People Play' by Jenni Toivoniemi and 'A Blind Man Who Did Not Want To See The Titanic' by Teemu Nikki and is topped up by two modern classics by Finland's most prominent author, Aki Kaurisnäki's 'The Other Side Of Hope' and 'The Haven'.

'Compartment No. 6' will also contest the International Competition at 27th edition of KIFF among 10 other international entries.
